M1 Carbine
The US Army required a light weapon between the pistol and the rifle to be used where a normal service rifle will be awkward. At the end of 1941 the US army settled on the M1 carbine. The M1 is a short self loading rifle and even though it has the same calibre as the standard service rifle it fired a straight pistol-type cartridge. Lenght 35.65" with a 18" barrel and a muzzle velocity of 1950 f/s.
