The only excuse a Soviet soldier has for not saluting while covered is that he is busy firing a gun. Every junior salutes his senior, even the noncommissioned grades. In the armed forces of the Soviet Union "hello" is used as a friendly greeting among all ranks and is pronounced and means the same to them as it does to us. |
